Pastor: Rev. Dr. Mary Jo Sims
Mary Jo Sims was born in a small
county seat town in central Kentucky and grew up in Ohio, Minnesota and Kentucky. She graduated with a
BA from Georgetown College (Kentucky), where she majored in art and minored in English literature. She
earned an MA in English from George Mason University and both an MDiv and DMin from Wesley Theological Seminary.
Before entering ordained ministry, she taught secondary school (art and journalism) in Alexandria, Virginia.
Mary Jo has served as a pastor in small and medium sized rural churches and a large suburban church and as campus clergy
at two United Methodist related colleges. She is married to John S. Turner, II, a professor of Media Studies
at Goucher College. They have three grown sons-- Stuart, Robert and Nathaniel, and a ten year old golden
retriever named Blake.
Music Director: Larissa Rotniskaya
A native of Moscow, Russia, Ms. Rotnitskaya is a graduate of the Moscow State Pedagogical University and the College
of Moscow Conservatory, with a varied background in music, theatre, and dance. Since 1998, Ms. Rotnitskaya has lived and worked
in the USA as an accompanist for the University of Maryland Baltimore County Camerata and Concert Choir, the American Dance
Institute, Towson University, Goucher College, and the Baltimore School for the Arts as well as many other regional arts organizations.
In 2005 Ms. Rotnitskaya made a recording of music by Debussy for the Hollywood movie "Step Up." Since 2006 she has
been working as an accompanist at Hazamir Choir (JCC), as a private teacher and coach for piano and voice lessons, and as
Music Director and organist/pianist right here at Deer Park United Methodist Church.
